Dear Member:

I can’t believe another year has passed. 2005 has been an exciting year, and 2006 promises to be the same. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Here’s a short list of the events and projects that we were involved in 2005:

• Vermont History Expo in June featured “Then and Now”, showing pictures of Swanton’s places of interest.

• Annual picnic at the depot in June plus our Christmas dinner and model train display in December were enjoyed by many of our members and guests.

• Participated in Swanton’s first Community Day held on the Village Green in August. Distributed the Society’s new brochure, designed by Megan Muskie.

• Field trip to Missisquoi Museum, the 12-sided Walbridge Barn, and the Heritage School House in Stanbridge East, Quebec.

• In September, we exhibited at the Preservation Trust of Vermont weekend held at Shelburne Farms.

Plans are in the works to refurbish the old iron bridge, which is to be erected on the site where the old covered bridge was located near the railroad depot.

We would like to have meetings and special events that interest you. Would you please jot down where you would like us to go on a field trip this year. We are open to any ideas you may have. Also, is there any subject that you would like us to have a speaker talk about? Your input is appreciated.

Have a great year and stop by to see us at the depot. The depot will be open mid-April, Tuesday-Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for the season. Volunteers are needed to greet the public on Sunday, so if you are interested, please let us know.
